Liu Wen (simplified Chinese: 刘雯; traditional Chinese: 劉雯; pinyin: Liú Wén; born January 27, 1988) is a Chinese fashion model.  She is the first model of East Asian descent to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.  In 2010, she became the first spokesmodel of Asian descent for Estée Lauder, alongside Constance Jablonski and Joan Smalls. Liu was born into a working-class family on January 27, 1988, in Yongzhou, Hunan.  Liu is an only child. In her teens, her mother encouraged her to be professional, to eat well, and to enter the modeling contest which led to Liu's discovery.

Early career and success[edit]
Liu started her modeling career in 2005[9] when she entered the New Silk Road World Model Contest, a contest previously won by international covergirl Du Juan. Although she did not win the competition, Liu soon began working full-time as a model, eventually becoming a national success story after working with Chinese fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.

Liu Wen
In September 2007, Liu caught the attention of the international fashion industry when she shot an editorial in clothes designed by Karl Lagerfeld and Viktor and Rolf[1][9] and would later walk for both of those brands. She was invited to Paris in 2008 to sign with an agency and participate in Paris Fashion week.[9]

In February 2008 she appeared in four fashion-related articles for Chinese Vogue.[9] She debuted on international runways in the same month, walking for Burberry and closing the fall Trussardi show in Milan. The week after, she walked for Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Hermès in Paris.[2] A year later in February and March 2009, Liu Wen led the entire modeling industry by walking 74 shows in New York, London, Milan, and Paris for the Fall 2009 ready-to-wear season. It remains the record for the most shows ever walked by a model of Asian descent in a single season.[10] She followed that up with the Spring 2010 ready-to-wear season, walking 70 shows in the same four cities. This statistic made her the second most booked model for the season following French model Constance Jablonski.[11]

Liu has appeared in campaigns for Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana, Roberto Cavalli, Oscar de la Renta, Hugo Boss, Alexander Wang, Rag & Bone, H&M, Marni, Lane Crawford,
Bergdorf Goodman, Diesel, Gap, and Vivienne Tam. Her record for a single season is seven[12] including DKNY Jeans, The GAP, Barneys New York, Benetton, Alexander Wang, Converse, and cKone in Spring 2009. She has been featured as the only female in major Vogue editorials for Vogue Germany, Vogue Espana, Vogue China, Vogue Italia, British Vogue and American Vogue. She has also been featured in editorials for Numéro (As well as a cover), GQ, V Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Pop Magazine, Allure, i-D (as well as a cover), Interview, and W.[12]

In 2009, Liu became the first woman of Chinese descent to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.[4] Liu also participated in the 2010 show.[13] Liu said that she was somewhat surprised to be chosen because most Victoria's Secret models "have big boobs." She has walked the show for four consecutive years as of 2013.[14]

In April 2010, it was announced that Liu and Jablonski would help to represent the cosmetics company Estée Lauder. Liu is the first Asian face of the company.[15]

In March 2012, the New York Times featured Liu Wen on the cover and in the main feature for their Style "T" Magazine's Travel Issue, and she was dubbed "China’s first bona fide supermodel."[5] In the same year, she attended the Cannes Film Festival for the first time and walked the Victoria's Secret Show for the fourth consecutive year.[16]

In Spring 2013, Liu Wen was dubbed one of "The New Icons" by H&M for her widely-admired streetstyle.[17] In August 2013, Forbes listed Liu as the 5th highest paid model in the world, and the first Asian model to ever make the annual list, with earnings of 4.3 million dollars.[7] She also joined The Society Management.

Due to her notoriety, Liu Wen has garnered a heavy social media following on platforms such as Instagram and Weibo. The immensity of her audience led to American Vogue to dub her as a leader in the digital movement, saying in their April 2014 issue that "Liu also has, by far, the biggest social-media audience of any model."[8]

As of August 2013, Liu is ranked #3 on the Top 50 Models Women List by models.com.[18] She is the highest-ranked model of Asian descent in history.

Personal life[edit]
In the past, Liu has said that after modeling she might enjoy working as a stylist or, were the opportunity to arise, as an actress - she feels that modeling and acting have much in common, but for now she enjoys modeling and working in the fashion industry. She has stated that she knows that, as a career choice, working as a fashion designer or stylist would be "very hard work,"[19] but she is now more seriously considering becoming a stylist because she would like "to share her fashion style - tomboyish, vintage, and comfortable - with the world."

She is friends with fellow models Joan Smalls, Constance Jablonski and Lindsey Wixson and fellow Chinese models Shu Pei Qin, Du Juan, Fei Fei Sun, Sui He, Ju Xiaowen, and Ming XiHERO DYD

Legacy[edit]

Gisele Bündchen, the world's highest-paid model since 2004.[66][67]
24 September 2000, Newsweek published an article "This Year's Model" which emphasized a craze in modeling culture in Brazil because of Gisele. "In Brazil, where beauty is as highly valued as football or the samba, modeling has become an obsession. Modeling courses, makeup workshops and beauty contests are all the rage. Crash diets are in vogue. A dozen big-name modeling agencies like Marilyn have set up shop in São Paulo and deployed an army of talent scouts to beat the pavement for new faces. And from the smallest parish in the southern grain belt to the swank boulevards of Sao Paulo, kids are practicing their posture and perfecting their pouts. Capricho, a glossy teen magazine, recently asked 1,100 Brazilian teenagers if they wanted to become fashion models. Eighty-six percent said yes. The reason for this craze stands 1.77 meters tall and has smoldering blue eyes. Her name is Gisele Bundchen--known to all as Gisele--and she is the most celebrated Brazilian since Pele." it stated. they went onto claim; "It would be difficult to overstate Gisele's impact, not only on Brazil but on the modeling industry as well. Just two years ago the celebrity model looked like an endangered species. The public grew so weary of the pampered princesses that they were pushed off magazine and tabloid covers by pop singers, movie stars, even politicians. Then came Gisele. "She had breasts and hips and great hair," says James Scully, booking editor of Harper's Bazaar. "Men want her. Women want to be her. We haven't had that since Cindy and Naomi." And so the fashionistas swarmed to Brazil for Gisele clones. Fashion Pygmalions are scouring the hinterlands for beauties in the rough. Models with nondescript accents are pretending to be Brazilian. "Everyone asks me if I know her," says Brazilian clothing designer Alexandre Herchcovitch, whose popular label, Zoomp, is selling even better in the age of Gisele. Other Brazilian companies are capitalizing on the babe from Brazil as well. When the giant beverage company Ambev wanted to add some oomph to its New York Stock Exchange debut last week, they called Gisele—not Greenspan—who tossed Ambev caps and blew kisses. Says Herchcovitch: "It's a good time to be Brazilian." To be sure, Brazil's modeling business has changed dramatically since Gisele was a schoolgirl. In the mid-'90s, there were five agencies nationwide. Now there are 11, with branches all over the country and a legion of aggressive scouts."[68] Bündchen pioneered the "horse walk", a stomping movement created when a model picks her knees up high and kicks her feet out in front.[9]

Public image[edit]

Bündchen in 2006
In 2000, Bündchen was dubbed the "Boobs from Brazil" for inspiring the 36,000 breast enhancement surgeries performed that year in Brazil.[69] In 2006, Elle magazine surveyed the American leading stylists and asked them to name the star whose hair was a favourite for their clients. More than 50 percent gave Bündchen the title of best hair in Hollywood.[70] In February 2008 a survey by the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) asked the question, "What influences do celebrities have on the decisions patients make?". The survey was sent to more than 20,000 plastic surgeons in 84 countries. Bündchen was among the most frequently mentioned celebrities. Bündchen won the abdomen and hair categories and took second place in the breasts category.[71] 2008 saw a black-and-white photo of Bündchen, shot by Irving Penn, auctioned for $193,000 (£96,000) alongside images of other models and celebrities, including Carla Bruni. Gisele's fetched by far the most on the night.[72]

She was voted second place on Vanity Fair's world's most beautiful poll in 2009.[73] On January 2011, Bündchen came in first in the most desired female body on the 14th Annual Famed Hottest Looks survey, compiled by Beverly Hills plastic surgeons Dr. Richard Fleming and Dr. Toby Mayer. Even after giving birth in December 2009, her body was the most requested by the doctors' patients. "Different body types are represented on the list because most women are shaped differently and want to look naturally beautiful," explained Dr. Fleming. "Some women want the lean look like Gisele [...]."[74]

In 2011, AskMen.com revealed their annual "Most Desirable Women" list. Bündchen, along with Angelina Jolie and Beyoncé Knowles, are the only women to have made the list every year for ten years in a row.[75] singer Beyonce in a 2011 Harper's Bazaar interview named Gisele as one of her fashion inspiration stating that "I always admire Victoria Beckham and Gisele [Bündchen]. Their style is modern but always classic."[76] A designer the Tibi Spring/Summer 2012 fashion show at New York Fashion week in fall 2011 explained, "The inspiration is taken heavily from the '90s—a freshly scrubbed Gisele from the pages of Vogue—clean, crisp, sporty looks and relaxed styles you want to live in."[77] Vogue editor Anna Wintour calleded her the "model of the millennium," and the magazine called her "The return of the sexy model". Rolling Stone declared her "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World" in 2000 and Vanity Fair published an article titled "... And God Created Gisele" in 2009.[21] In 2012 The 26th edition of Casa Cor in Brazil, one of the world´s biggest decorating, landscaping, and architecture events, paid tribute to Gisele with a wood sculpture in her image.[78] She was ranked No. 9 on Men's Health Magazine's list of The Hottest Women of 2013.[79] In 2013 GQ Magazine listed her among The 100 Hottest Women of the 21st Century.[80]

Bündchen is ranked No. 4, behind Pelé, Paulo Coelho and Neymar on Forbes Brasil's list of the 100 most influential Brazilian celebrities.[81]

After C&A Brazil hired Bündchen as a spokesmodel and began airing television commercials, sales increased by 30 per cent.[82] In 2012 The Hollywood Reporter stated Bundchen became C&A's biggest booster in Brazil and even helped with European sales.[83] In 2001, Bündchen launched Ipanema Gisele Bündchen,[84] her own line of flip-flop sandals in association with the official Ipanema brand of flip-flops. In three years, sales topped $30 million, with a portion of proceeds going to green causes.[21] Forbes put her 53rd on their 2007 list of the most powerful celebrities.[85] Ipanema Gisele Bündchen made an estimated £152 million with over 250 million pairs sold in 2010.[86] Bündchen told Vitals Magazine in 2005 that she has been involved in business and investing in real estate since she was 18 years old. She claims modeling is only 40 per cent of what she does, and the rest is contracting.[87] On 1 May 2007, it was announced that Bündchen had ended her contract with Victoria's Secret.[88] According to a stock market analysis in 2007, when Gisele terminated her agreement with Victoria's Secret, which is owned by Limited Brands Inc. (LTD), Limited was selling for $26.80 per share. Soon thereafter, the stock declined to $18.36 per share, a 31.5% drop.[89]

American economist Fred Fuld developed a stock index to measure the profit performance improvement of companies represented by Bündchen compared with the Dow Jones Industrial Average. According to Fuld, the Gisele Bündchen Stock Index was up 15 per cent between May and July 2007, substantially surpassing the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which was up just 8.2%.[90][91] In 2010, Bündchen introduced her own skin care product line, named Sejaa Pure Skincare which according to Forbes has been in talks with Shiseido for over a year on an acquisition deal.[92][93] In early 2011, Procter & Gamble's Pantene shampoo sales increased 40 per cent in Latin America after Bündchen started representing the product.[94] Edward Razek, chief marketing officer of Limited Brands, who worked with Bündchen during her Victoria's Secret career says, "She's an international icon who can also move product, from shampoo to couture."[95][96] The lingerie brand "HOPE" increased turnover by 40 per cent after contracting Bündchen as its representative.[97] According to Grazia daily UK in January 2012, her lingerie label "Gisele Bundchen Brazilian Intimates", has already proved to be a sell out in Latin America, Portugal, Japan, and Israel.[98]

In February 2012 the website Vogue.it stated "the Brazilian model is the King Midas of fashion. Everything she touches turns to gold and companies that have invested in her have reaped the rewards."[99] An Esprit public awareness campaign featuring Bündchen helped raise consumer awareness of the Esprit brand, with a 9 percent rise in Germany, and a 19 percent rise in China.[100] She was ranked No. 61 on Forbes' Most Powerful Celebrities list in 2012.[101] In May 2012 she was ranked fourth on the World's Most Powerful Latino Celebrity list by Forbes.[102]

In 2013 she ranked No. 5 among the most successful Brazilian Business Women list. Forbe's reported that, the products that bear her name... in Brazil – including Grendene's Ipanema sandals. She has her own lingerie line called Gisele Bundchen Intimates. She still collects big fees to lend her image for the likes of Chanel, David Yurman and P&G.[103]

The brand of products for teeth Oral B Brasil grew considerably since hiring Bündchen. She takes home $4 million a year from her Procter & Gamble contract.[104]

Bündchen's jelly sandals Ipanema by Gisele Bundchen sell as much as 25 million pairs annually and accounted for more than 60% of Grendene’s annual exports of about $250 million in 2013.[105]

Charitable activities[edit]

Bündchen in 2006
Bündchen donated $150,000 to Brazil's Zero Hunger program. She designed a limited necklace edition for Harper's Bazaar, crafted by jewelers Gumuchian Fils. These necklaces were sold to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A percentage of the proceeds from the auction will go to Russell Simmons' Diamond Empowerment Fund, whose mission is to raise money to support education initiatives in countries where diamonds are a natural resource.[114] In 2010 she wrote a $1.5 million check to the Red Cross to aid the relief effort in Haiti after seeing the devastation done by the earthquake.[115]

Bündchen made a surprise visit to patients at the Jimmy Fund Clinic at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.[116] In 2011, Bündchen was added to The Giving Back Fund's list of celebs who made the largest donations to charity.[117] In June 2012 she helped launch a beauty contest in Brazil, Top Kufa Brazil, to find new faces in Brazilian favelas. This was the first national competition of beauty played exclusively by candidates between 18 and 22 years who live in underserved communities, created by the Central Union of Slums and Pantene, the brand which Gisele is the face of.[118]

Bundchen ranked No. 15 on Forbes's 30 most generous celebrities list in 2012.[119]

On 26 December 2013 Bündchen surprised Karina Moreira, a local Boston teen at her home, who is battling bone cancer. Before then, they had met once, two years ago at a Dana Farber event. Moreira and Bündchen talked about fashion and shared makeup tips.[120]

As of April 2014, Bündchen is one of 22 designers to design a collection for the charity Born Free Africa, an exclusive collaboration from Shopbop, Vogue, and 22 designers. 100% of the profits from this women's and children's collection will go toward Born Free's mission to end mother-to-child HIV transmission at birth.[121]

Environmental work[edit]

Bündchen in 2006
Bündchen dedicates part of her website to environmental issues. She launched a "green" blog in 2008 with the aim of "reflecting on socio-environmental issues that we can do something about". In May 2009, she co-hosted the Rainforest Alliance's annual gala to honor leaders in sustainability.[122] Bündchen has also supported a variety of environmental causes, including clean water initiatives,[21] environmental sustainability,[21] and preservation of South American rainforests.[123] In 2007 she took part in eBay Giving Works, eBay's program dedicated to charity listings online auction for the WWF, with 100% of the proceeds going to the World Wildlife Fund's global conservation initiatives, especially those involved in the fight against climate change.[124] In 2008 she appeared on the cover of US magazine American Photo to promote her Forests of the Future project for the reforestation of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. The initiative, which was set up with SOS Mata Atlantica in 2004, has planted over 1 million new trees in Bündchen's name to start reforestation of the Brazilian rainforests.[125] In May 2011 Bündchen was named Harvard's 2011 Global Environmental Citizen in recognition of her eco-efforts.[126] In November 2011, she was awarded Greenest Celebrity at the 2011 International Green awards at the National History Museum of London. Each year the Green Awards honors a celebrity who has been the most creative and innovative in the approach of sustainability of the environment. An online public vote took place and Bündchen was the winner, beating Paul McCartney and Miguel Bose.[127]

Goodwill ambassador[edit]
In 2008 Bündchen and Brady dished out turkey and all the trimmings unannounced to over 400 job trainees in Roxbury Massachusetts for Goodwill Industries International.[128] On 20 September 2009, she was designated Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).[129] In January 2012, Bündchen made her first official visit to Africa as UNEP Goodwill Ambassador.[130] Bündchen chooses a different charity each year to which proceeds of sales from her sandals are donated. The 2011 donation went to ISA – the Socio-environmental Institute.[131] In January 2012, Bündchen visited Kenya on a goodwill mission to improve energy poverty. She spent a day with a family in a village in Kisumu County and helped them with tasks such as carrying firewood to their hut – while discussing the dangers of using firewood inside homes that do not have energy. She danced with the locals and visited various homes, as well as teaming up with UK NGO Practical Action during the course of her stay.[132][133] In April 2012 she donated money for AIDS research.[134] On the eve of World Environment Day 4 June 2012, Bündchen, who is Goodwill Ambassador of the UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), went to Rio de Janeiro to plant the first of a series of 50,000 trees in a degraded area.[135]

In January 2014, Bündchen joined the Rainforest Alliance board of directors.[136]

Personal life[edit]

Bündchen married Tom Brady in 2009 and they have two children.
From 2000 to 2005, Bündchen was in a relationship with American actor Leonardo DiCaprio.[13] In 2004, Bündchen and DiCaprio made People's annual Most Beautiful Couples List.[137] In 2010, Bündchen told Harper's Bazaar how important breastfeeding is for her.[138]

Family[edit]
Bündchen began dating New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in December 2006.[139] In 2009 Brady revealed to Details magazine that they were first set up on a blind date by a mutual friend.[140] Bündchen and Brady married on 26 February 2009 in a small Catholic ceremony at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California.[141] On 5 April 2009, the couple remarried in a larger ceremony in Costa Rica, with Bündchen's stepson John present.[142] Bündchen and Brady have two children: son Benjamin Rein Bundchen Brady (born 2009)[143][144] and daughter Vivian Lake Bundchen Brady (born 2012).[145]

Gisele and Tom's Los Angeles home uses solar energy, gray water system, lighting systems that reduce energy consumption, a rainwater recovery system, waste reduction and recycling programs. They have their own vegetable garden, where 90% of the food they eat comes from. The house uses recovered stone, wood, insulation, household appliances with a green seal and other sustainable products, and 80% of the construction waste was reused or recycled.[146] Subsequently, the family bought a $14 million condominium at One Madison in Manhattan in October 2013. They are building another home near Boston.[147]

After the Patriots lost in Super Bowl XLVI and Bündchen was heckled by several New York Giants fans, she was caught on video saying, "My husband cannot fucking throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time!"[148][149] The comment, which was widely publicized both in the traditional media[150][151] and the blogosphere,[152][153] caused a media stir.[154]

Wealth[edit]
In August 2011, Bündchen ranked 60th on the Forbes list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women.[155] She ranked third on the The 20 Youngest Power Women of 2011 List at age 31.[156] In 2011 Forbes named Bündchen and Brady as the World's Highest Paid Celebrity couple, beating out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as well as Beyoncé and Jay-Z.[157] In August 2012 she was one of four fashion people and the only model to be ranked on the Forbes list of "The World's Most Powerful Women" at No. 83. She ranked in the top 10 of the Forbes list of "Entertainment's Highest-Paid Women" in 2012, at No. 8.[158]

In July 2007 Forbes magazine named her the world's top-earning model.[159] By 2008, she continued to dominate the Forbes list of the world's highest-earning models, and appeared on the magazine's list of the Top 20 Richest Women in Entertainment.[21] During 2009–2010, she was the top earning supermodel.[160] In 2010, she retained the top spot as Forbes's highest-earning model.[21] On May 2011, Forbes ranked her as the world's top-earning model for the fifth consecutive time. Her earnings climbed over the previous year, thanks to an economic boom in Brazil, coupled with a 10 per cent surge in the value of the Brazilian real against the dollar.[95] Also in 2013 she ranked No. 3 on the 16 most successful female entrepreneurs list by Forbes.[161]

Bündchen, however, denies her wealth, telling WSJ. magazine in November 2013, "Who are they speaking to when they come up with these numbers? Not my accountant, that's for sure.HERO DYD

Paris goes skydiving and takes ‘extreme’ selfie
paris-sky
Kim Kardashian may be the queen of selfies but Paris Hilton is taking it to a new level. The reality star recently shared an “extreme” selfie of herself skydiving.

Hilton has been spending a lot of time focusing on her music career. She recently announced that her new single would be called “Come Alive” and that she’ll be filming the new video sometime next month.

But before she gets down to work she’s taking some time to cross a few things off of her bucket list. Like skydiving.

Now, I’m not sure if this really classifies as a selfie. I’m guessing that someone else took the photo as Paris tried not to freak out as she fell from earth. But let’s not be too nitpicky. It’s still a pretty
awesome photo.

Paris shared her skydiving photos on the new Paris Hilton Channel. The iTunes app keeps you up to date on everything about the reality star.

If/Then

http://perezhilton.com/
If Idina Menzel were not so super talented, then If/Then would be such a Debbie Downer of a show - more so than it already is!
Unfortunately, this is no Wicked or Rent.
If/Then fails to serve the greatness that is its leading lady and her big Broadway return in 10 years is dampened by a show that is underwhelming at best and laborious throughout.
The whole concept of the show, a musical ripoff of the Gwyneth Paltrow movie Sliding Doors, does a disservice to the material and actors. If/Then would have worked A LOT better as a musical comedy! The show is a dramatic musical, but you're not very invested in the characters because you don't have time to be. The action is split into two alternating stories that explore the different consequences Idina's character would have been faced with if she made different decisions in her life.
Brian Yorkey's book literally made us groan repeatedly. There were so many moments we wanted to pull our hair out throughout the show, but then - thankfully - Idina would sing and all would be temporarily better.
Note to Mr. Yorkey: cursing repeatedly does not make your show "cool" or "edgy".
And even worse and more distracting than the book was the choreography by Larry Keigwin. It is just embarrassingly cheesy and bad!
Sigh.
THANKFULLY, though, there are some real standout performances. James Snyder brings so much warmth to his role as the love interest that you can't help but fall in love with him. And LaChanze brings so much humor and personality to her role as the best
friend that she almost steals the
show!
Annmarie Milazzo did a FANTASTIC job with the vocal arrangements and she must be applauded for truly giving the audience what they want - to hear Idina sing and really show off that big and iconic voice of hers!
Menzel is at the top of her game vocally, and despite the show itself being lackluster, she will still likely get a Tony nomination!
Hopefully next in line for her… Menzel with a Z! Or something like that!
A Menzel one-woman show would have a lot more appeal and would be such a universally loved hit!
Do it! Do it! Do it

Liv Tyler

Liv Tyler
Liv
Liv Rundgren Tyler (born Liv Rundgren; July 1, 1977) is an American actress and model. She is the daughter of Aerosmith's lead singer, Steven Tyler, and model Bebe Buell. Tyler began a career in modeling at the age of 14 but, after less than a year, she decided to focus on acting. After her film debut Silent Fall (1994), she appeared in supporting roles in Empire Records (1995), Heavy (1996) and That Thing You Do! (1996). Tyler later achieved critical recognition in the leading role in Stealing Beauty (1996). She followed this by starring in supporting roles including Inventing the Abbotts (1997) and Cookie's Fortune (1999).

Tyler
Liv Tyler
Tyler achieved international recognition as a result of her portrayal of Elf maiden Arwen Undómiel in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy. She has appeared in an eclectic range of films, including the 2004 comedy Jersey Girl, the indie film Lonesome Jim (2005), the drama Reign Over Me (2007) and big-budget studio films such as Armageddon (1998), The Strangers (2008) and The Incredible Hulk (2008).

She has served as a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Goodwill Ambassador for the United States in 2003, and as a spokesperson for Givenchy's line
of perfume and cosmetics.

Tyler was born Liv Rundgren  at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.  She is the only daughter of Bebe Buell, a model, singer, and former Playboy Playmate (Miss November 1974), and Steven Tyler, the lead singer of Aerosmith.  Her mother named her after Norwegian actress, Liv Ullmann, after seeing Ullmann on the cover of the March 5, 1977 issue of TV Guide  She is of Italian, German, Polish, and English ancestry on her father's side  and German ancestry on her mother's side.  Tyler has three half-siblings: Mia Tyler (born 1978),  Chelsea Anna Tallarico (born 1989), and Taj Monroe
Tallarico (born 1992).  Her maternal grandmother, Dorothea Johnson, founded the Protocol School of Washington.

Liv Tyler
From 1972 to 1979, Liv’s mother Bebe Buell had a longtime relationship with rock musician Todd Rundgren. During their cohabitation, sometimes they were on-and-off. In 1976, Buell became unexpectedly pregnant from her brief relationship with Steven Tyler. On July 1, 1977, Buell gave birth to Liv. But Buell initially named the daughter Liv Rundgren and claimed that Todd Rundgren was the biological father. Rundgren and Buell ended their romantic relationship shortly after Liv's birth, but Rundgren put his heart and soul into the "white lie".  At age eight Liv met Steven Tyler and noticed a resemblance she shared with his other daughter, Mia.  When she asked her mother about the similarity, the secret was revealed. The truth about Tyler's paternity did not become public until six years later in 1991, when she changed her name from Rundgren to Tyler, but kept the former as a middle name.[citation needed] Buell's stated reason for the initial decision was that Steven was too heavily addicted to drugs at the time of her birth.[3] Since learning the truth about her paternity, Liv and Steven have developed a close relationship.[1] They also have worked together professionally, once when she appeared in Aerosmith's music video for "Crazy" in 1993, and again when Aerosmith performed many of the songs in the film Armageddon (1998) in which Tyler starred.[1]

According to Tyler "... Todd [Rundgren] basically decided when I was born that I needed a father so he signed my birth certificate. He knew that there was a chance that I might not be his but …." He paid to put her through private school, and she visited him several times a year.[11]

Tyler maintains a close relationship with Rundgren. "I’m so grateful to him, I have so much love for him. You know, when he holds me it feels like Daddy. And he’s very protective and strong."[11]

Tyler attended the Congressional Schools of Virginia, Breakwater School and Waynflete School in Portland, Maine,[12][13][14] before returning to New York City with her mother at age 12.[1][4] She went to York Preparatory in New York City for junior high and high school after her mother researched the school to accommodate Tyler's ADHD.[15] She graduated in 1995, and left to continue her acting career.[1][4] When asked about the way she spent her early life, Tyler said: "For me, I didn’t get much of a childhood in my teen years because I’ve been working since I was 14. But that also kept me out of trouble. When everybody was doing acid and partying like crazy, I was at work on a movie in Tuscany ... having my own fun, of course, but it was a different kind of thing. I have no regrets. I love the way my life has gone."[16]

Career[edit]
Early work[edit]
Tyler received her first modeling job at age 14 with the assistance of Paulina Porizkova, who took pictures of her that ended up in Interview magazine.[1][4] She later starred in television commercials.[1][4] She, however, became bored with her modeling career less than a year after it started, and decided to go into acting, although[4] she never took acting lessons.[3] Tyler first became known to television audiences when she starred alongside Alicia Silverstone in the music video for Aerosmith's 1993 song "Crazy".[1]

1994–2000[edit]
Tyler made her feature film debut in Silent Fall in 1994, where she played the elder sister of a boy with autism.[17] In 1995, she starred in the comedy drama Empire Records.[18] Tyler has described Empire Records as "one of the best experiences" she has ever had.[19] Soon after, she landed a supporting role in James Mangold's 1996 drama Heavy as Callie, a naive young waitress. The film received favorable reviews;[20] critic Janet Maslin noted: "Ms. Tyler ... gives a charmingly ingenuous performance, betraying no self-consciousness about her lush good looks."[21]

Tyler had her breakthrough role in Stealing Beauty (1996), in which she played Lucy Harmon, an innocent, romantic teenager who travels to Tuscany, Italy, intent on losing her virginity. The film received generally mixed reviews,[22] but Tyler's performance was favored by the critics; Variety wrote: "Tyler is the perfect accomplice. At times sweetly awkward, at others composed and serene, the actress appears to respond effortlessly and intuitively to the camera, creating a rich sense of what Lucy is about that often is not explicit in the dialogue."[23] Empire noted, "Liv Tyler (here radiantly resembling a ganglier young Ava Gardner) with a rare opportunity to enamour, a break she capitalizes on with composure."[24] The film was directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, who chose Tyler for the role after meeting with a number of young girls in Los Angeles, including Tyler's music video co-star Alicia Silverstone. Bertolucci claimed "there was something missing in all of them".[25] He later admitted that what he saw in Tyler was a gravitas he described as "a New York aura".[25] During promotion of the film, Tyler admitted she wanted to separate herself from the character during production; "I tried my damnedest not to think of my own situation. But at one point, after a take, I just started to cry and cry. I remembered when I found out about my dad and how we just stared at each other from head to toe taking in every nook and cranny."[25]

Tyler at the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003
She later appeared in That Thing You Do! (1996), a movie about a fictional one-hit wonder rock band called The Oneders, following their whirlwind rise to the top of the pop charts, and just as quickly, their plunge back to obscurity.[26] The film was written and directed by Tom Hanks.[27] It grossed over $25 million worldwide,[28] and was met with favorable reviews.[29] The following year, she appeared in Inventing the Abbotts in 1997, in which she played the daughter of Will Patton and Barbara Williams' characters.[30] The movie is based on a short story by Sue Miller.[31] Entertainment Weekly declared Tyler's performance as "lovely and pliant".[32] That same year, Tyler was chosen by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People.[33]

Tyler next appeared in Armageddon (1998), where she played the daughter of Bruce Willis' character and love interest of Ben Affleck's character. The film generated mixed reviews,[34] but was a box office success earning $553 million worldwide.[28] The movie included the songs "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" and "What Kind of Love Are You On" by Aerosmith.[35] In a 2001 interview with The Guardian, she admitted that she turned down the role in Armageddon; "I really didn't want to do it at first and I turned it down a couple of times, but the biggest reason I changed my mind was because I was scared of it. I wanted to try it for that very reason. I mean, I'm not really in this to do amazing things in my career - I just want it to be special when I make a movie."[13]

She was then cast in the drama Onegin (1999), a film based on the 19th century Russian novel of the same name by Alexander Pushkin, in which she portrayed Tatyana Larina and co-starred with Ralph Fiennes.[36] Tyler was required to master an English accent, though Stephen Holden of the New York Times felt that her approximation of an English accent was "inert".[37] The film was critically and financially unsuccessful.[28][38] That same year, she appeared in the historical comedy film Plunkett & Macleane.[39][40]

She later appeared in two films directed by Robert Altman, Cookie's Fortune (1999) and Dr. T & the Women (2000).[1][36] In Cookie's Fortune, she was part of an ensemble cast that included Glenn Close, Julianne Moore, Chris O'Donnell, and Patricia Neal.[41] Her performance well received among critics; Salon.com wrote: "This is the first time in which Tyler's acting is a match for her beauty (she's always been a bit forlorn). Altman helps her find some snap, but a relaxed, silly snap, as in the cartoon sound she makes when she takes a midday swig of bourbon. The lazy geniality of the movie is summed up by the way Emma [Tyler's character] saunters off to take a swim with her cowboy hat and pint of Wild Turkey."[42] Entertainment Weekly also noted that Tyler is "sweetly gruff as the tomboy troublemaker".[43] In the romantic comedy, Dr. T & the Women, she played Marilyn, a gynecological patient of Richard Gere's character, who is the lesbian lover of his daughter, played by Kate Hudson.[44]

2001–present[edit]
In 2001, Tyler played the object of infatuation for three men (Matt Dillon, John Goodman and Paul Reiser) in the black comedy One Night at McCool's.[45] In discussion of the role, she said: "This was definitely the first part where I had to be so physically aware and have people so aware of me physically. Maybe it's not hard for anybody else, but it is a bit for me. I mean I love my body and I feel very comfortable in my skin, but this was tough."[46] Peter Travers of Rolling Stone wrote: "Tyler, a true beauty, gives the role a valiant try, but her range is too limited to play this amalgam of female perfection."[47]

In 2001, she starred in the feature film The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, directed by Peter Jackson. She played the Elf maiden Arwen Undómiel.[46][48] The film is based on the first volume of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. The filmmakers approached Tyler after seeing her performance in Plunkett & Macleane.[49] She learned to speak the fictitious Elvish language that was created by Tolkien.[50] Mick LaSalle of the San Francisco Chronicle noted that Tyler's performance was "lovely and earnest".[51]

A year later, Tyler again starred as Arwen in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, the second installment of the series. The film received favorable reviews.[52] Tyler spent months before filming learning sword fighting, to be used during the concluding battle scenes in The Two Towers,[53] though her scenes from the battle were removed after the script was changed.[53] The film was an enormous box office success, earning over $926 million worldwide,[54] out-grossing its predecessor, which earned over $871 million.[28] In 2003, Tyler featured in the third and last installment of the series, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.[55]

Following the success of The Lord of the Rings, she appeared opposite her Armageddon co-star Ben Affleck in writer-director Kevin Smith's romantic comedy Jersey Girl (2004), playing a woman who re-opens a widowed father's heart to love, played by Affleck.[56] In an interview with MTV News, Tyler confessed that she felt "scared and vulnerable" while filming Jersey Girl, adding "I was so used to those other elements of the character [Arwen]. On The Lord of the Rings, a lot of things were done in post-production, whereas this was really just about me and Ben sitting there, just shooting off dialogue."[57] However, she reiterated that doing Jersey Girl was what she wanted to do.[57]

In 2005, she appeared in Steve Buscemi's independent drama Lonesome Jim, where she was cast alongside Casey Affleck, as a single mother and nurse who reconnects with an old fling who has returned to their small town of Indiana after a failed run as a novelist in New York.[57] The film was screened at a special presentation at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival where it was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.[58] Tyler's next appearance in film was in a supporting role as an insightful therapist who tries to help a once-successful dentist (Adam Sandler) cope with the loss of his family during the events of the September 11th attacks in Reign Over Me (2007).[59][60]

In 2008, she starred in the horror-thriller The Strangers with Scott Speedman, a film about a young couple who are terrorized one night by three masked assailants in their remote country house.[61][62] Although the film garnered a mixed reception among critics,[63] it was a box office success.[28] In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, she noted that The Strangers was the most challenging role of her career.
